Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about M50 Toll Tracker

How does the app detect when I pass the M50 toll?

The app uses a smart two-stage geofencing system: 1. When you're within 2km of the toll, the app activates precise background location tracking 2. When you enter the toll zone, a toll event is automatically created This approach maximises detection accuracy while minimising battery usage. You don't need to do anything—it works automatically in the background!

Do I need to keep the app open while driving?

No! The app works entirely in the background—you don't need to keep it open at all. Once you've completed the setup and granted location permissions, the app will automatically detect toll crossings even when your phone is locked or the app is closed. Just make sure you've granted "Always" location permission during setup.

Why do I need 'Always' location permission?

The two-stage geofencing system requires "Always" location permission to detect when you're approaching the toll area. The app only activates precise location tracking when you're within 2km of the toll gantry—we don't track your location continuously throughout your journey.

Will this drain my battery?

No! Our two-stage geofencing system is designed for minimal battery impact: • Stage 1 (Geofencing): Ultra low-power monitoring that's always on • Stage 2 (Background Location): Only activates when within 2km of the toll You'll see the blue location indicator on iOS only when near the toll area. Most users report no noticeable battery impact.

What does the blue location indicator mean?

On iOS, you'll see a blue indicator when the app is actively tracking your location. This only appears when you're within 2km of the M50 toll gantry. Once you pass through or leave the area, it disappears. This is normal and shows the app is working correctly.

What if I miss a toll detection?

If the app doesn't detect a toll crossing, you can manually log it using the "I used the M50 today" button on the home page. This will create a toll event and schedule reminders just like an automatic detection. You can also always pay manually at eflow.ie before the 8pm deadline the following day.

Can I use the app on multiple devices?

Your account supports 1 device at a time. If you want to use a different device, you can manage devices in Settings → My Device.

Why isn't geofencing working on my iPhone?

Make sure: • Location permission is set to "Always" (not "While Using") • Background App Refresh is enabled • Low Power Mode is disabled Go to Settings → M50 Toll Tracker → Location → Always

How accurate is the toll detection?

The app uses a 750m radius toll zone for detection. This radius ensures we catch your crossing even with GPS variations and motorway speed. The two-stage system means we start tracking precisely as you approach, maximising accuracy.

Do I still need to pay manually?

Yes! The app helps you remember to pay, but you still need to pay at eflow.ie. The app sends you reminders with the payment deadline, but you're responsible for making the payment before 8pm the following day.

What notification options are available?

You can customise your notification preferences in the app settings. Options include: • Minimal: One reminder next day at 7:30pm • Standard: Instant notification + next day reminder at 7:30pm • Never Miss: Instant + 8pm that evening + 7:30pm next day • Summary Only: Daily summary only • Off: No notifications

How do I purchase the lifetime license?

On iPhone or iPad, open the app and tap "Unlock – €5.99" when you need more than the two free toll detections. Payment is made through Apple. On Android, the same one-time purchase is available in the app.

How do I get a refund?

If you purchased on iOS, request a refund through Apple: Report a Problem in your purchase history, or contact Apple Support. For other payment methods, contact us via the Support page with your request.
